Analysis of the teaching material
My topic is from 《Go for it》7B Unit 5. It is a listening class. The main idea of the Unit is “family tree”. In this unit, the Ss will learn to speak the new words of family members and introduce the family members to others. This is a topic that is related to their daily life. So it can improve their spoken English and raise their learning interests in English.
Students’ analysis
In the topic, there are some advantages for the students. First: they are quite familiar with family members, such as father, mother, sister and brother…etc, so I think I can lead my students to study very naturally. Second: students love their family, and they will show great interest in introduce their family.
Teaching aims
1. Knowledge Objects
In this lesson, Ss should master the new words, such as: grandfather, grandmother, grandparent, father, mother, parent, brother, sister, friends… At the same time, they should know how to use these sentences “this/that is my mother/father/brother/sister/grandfather...These/those are my parents/grandparents、sisters...”and know how to answer these questions.
2. Ability Objects
In this lesson, I’ll mainly train the Ss' abilities of listening and speaking and develop the Ss’ abilities of communication in daily life by using “this/that is my mother/sister/grandfather... These/those are my parents/grandparents/brothers...”
In this lesson, the Ss should learn how to work with others during the group work. But the most important is that they should love their family, especially their father and mother.
Important and difficult points
According to the teaching aims, I think the focus of this lesson are the new expressions of family members and help the Ss to communicate with each other. The difficulty is to know how to use "this" and "that", "these/those"
Teaching methods
In this lesson, I’ll mainly use the Communicative Teaching Method, and it will be used in the whole lesson. I think it’s helpful to develop the Ss’ listening and spoken English. I’ll also use “Situational Language Teaching” method, creating a true situation for Ss to communicate with others.
Teaching procedure
There are five steps in this part.
Step1. Greeting and lead in.
In this part, I will show a PPT about “What’s family?”. At the same time, I will play an ad about “family”. After seeing the ad, my students can understand the meaning of family, and they will be moved.
Step 2 . Teaching and learning.
First of all, I will show a picture of new words. Let Ss read after me. Next, I will show a photo of my family, using “this, that, these, those, they” to introduce my family to my Ss. Then I will show Xia Xiaoyu’s family photo, use “he, she, they, these, those” to practice the sentences. In order that my Ss can practice these new sentences. I design some practice for them. Let them show their family photo drown by themselves, and practice the sentences. Then ask a few Ss to come to the front and introduce their family to others. Then I will go on showing a picture of Xiao Wangzi. Let my Ss learn the question about “who”. For example, “Who’s he/she?---He/She...” and “Who are they/these those?”---They’re ...?” At last, I will give them some time to practice this kind of questions. Then show it to others.
Step 3 . 8-sentences English practice.
This step, I will show 4 kinds of questions and their answers. Let Ss read, recite and retell them. On the one hand, it can practice their spoken English. On the other hand, Ss can foster the key sentences better.
Step 4 . Report
In order to raise my Ss’ knowledge level. I will show a family photo. Then give us an article. Let them finish the blanks in some minutes. Then, let them read the article. This article can help them review the new words and can improve their writing skill .
Step 5 . Moral objectives
This part, I will show the picture of “What’s family?” again. Then play a song sang by Chen Hong--《常回家看看》. The song can lead Ss to know “How to love their family?” . Then ask some Ss say something about “How to love their family”. And encourage them to do more actions for their family.
